Jason walked back into the apartment he and Shani owned after seeing the kids off to school. Ice greeted him, wagging his tail at the same time. Jason smiled and pet him as he stood there. It was the start of Jason's five days off and after all that went on at the station recently, he needed it, something that his commanding officer noticed and practically had to order him to take. Jason planned on taking full advantage of these days off in order to reset himself before heading back into the station. After petting Ice, he went into the kitchen and started to cook for him and Shani. While doing so, he thought back to when he first met Shani's parents, remembering how surprised they were to find out that he was an Irish-Catholic. Jason was sure that there would have been an argument between him and Shani's dad, but that was quickly crushed when Mr. Goren saw how trustworthy Jason was. Shani McGuire

Shani had been on a night shift with the fire house. She knew she had missed seeing the children before they went to school as the last call they went on took a little longer than she had thought. Even in that thought she was glad to be going home because the apartment was not empty, she knew Jason had a few days off and by her mind he needed them. She could tell that much but actually getting him to take the time that was a whole other thing, instead she had swapped her next shift around a little which gave her a few days clear.
She was glad of it because it was rare to spend time with Jason without the children there or a whole host of other things that came along with family life. As she entered the apartment and dropped her bag by the door she headed for the kitchen hearing something cooking. Shani knew she was a very lucky woman and that she was thankful for every single day as she walked over to Jason. “Morning.” She said smiling as came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned her head on his shoulder. “How are you today?” She asked concerned about him.

Jason smiled a bit when he heard Shani's voice. "Morning and I'm doing well" he replied honestly while standing there. He heard the concern in Shani's voice at the same time. "Actually....the last few days have been difficult....I'm glad to have this time off." he added while gently placing his hand on Shani's as he said that to her. He was speaking the truth about that. The past few patrols had been rather taxing and Jason was sure he'd had gone off the deep end.
At the same time, his CO practically had to order him to take this time off. Being Irish, Jason was rather stubborn at times and it took a lot for him to change his mind about things. He knew that Connor would get that from him, as well as Phoebe. "How was your shift?" Jason asked as he looked back to his wife.

Shani smiled as she raised her brow a little, ‘he was doing well’ she thought as she tried not to make any sarcastic remark to that though she found he gave in to her question. “As much as you are my superman, you don’t have to be superman for everyone. You need time off just like everyone else.” She stated hugging him a little. She could tell when there was something not quite right with him and this was one of those times, it was maybe a good thing that the children had gone to school as it gave them time to talk.
“It was fun, everyone lived but the last call held me up so sorry I couldn’t get back sooner.” She said apologetically, “There was a man and a chicken and really I’m still wondering if today happened so far.” She said grinning slightly, so her last call had taken longer to fill out the paperwork than actually do the part of her job that helped people but still. “So tell me about your last few days?” She asked as she kept her arms around him. “Only if you want to but I’m here no matter what.”
Shani simply wanted him to be happy, she knew there were days that were difficult to talk about and those that it took time but like always she just wanted him to know that she was there to listen. To listen to anything he wanted to say if it was work or home or a flying saucer though she was sure she would be driving him to the ER herself if he started down a tinfoil route.

Jason nodded a bit as he listened to Shani tell him that, knowing that she was there for him. "Well, first there was the party animals next to a day care, then the old lady who kept calling about needless things and to top it off there was the group of middle schoolers who decided to skip school and shoplift for the fourth time this week." he replied, keeping his frustration at bay as he said that to Shani.
"However, being with you takes the edge off it." he added honestly while looking at her. Jason smiled a little as he looked at her, knowing how much being with Shani helped him relax after a tough shift. At the same time, Ice looked over to them and wagged his tail while watching Jason and Shani from where he sat.

Shani listened and nodded as Jason spoke, it sounded to her like he was having a pretty tough day and she could see he was keeping his frustrations at bay. She appreciated that though if he needed to yell or scream about it then she was there no matter if he chose to swing from the ceiling. “That is a tough day to have.” She said understand how the days could go. It was a good thing about their jobs, even though they were different they could relate to things.
She smiled and blushed slighting as he spoke as she glanced away for a moment. “Same here, I’m a very lucky woman.” She said as she kissed his cheek again before she ran a hand over his back softly. "Just relax and enjoy your time off. I'll take care of lunch and dinner and the kids, you just need to relax." She stated as she saw Ice wag his tail. “Oh you too, come on then Ice you can join too.” She said waving Ice over to them, he was as much part of the family as anyone as she petted him.

Jason nodded when Shani said that to him, then looked over to Ice, who was walking over to join them. Jason smiled a bit, then looked back to Shani and kissed her. "And I'm a blessed man to have you as my wife." he said to her in a warm and genuine tone. Jason kissed Shani again after saying that to her. "You were a beautiful bride the day we got married.....if I remember right, your mom was close to tears though out the entire ceremony." he said to her gently while keeping his arms around Shani.
While saying that, Jason thought back to the day they were married. He would never forget how Shani looked that day. He was thankful everyday for her and that he was apart of her family. At the same time, he remembered how difficult it was at first in interacting with Shani's father.

Shani smiled as Jason kissed her, it was the best feeling in the world when he did. She sighed happily as she listened to him talk. “I’m a blessed woman to have you as my husband and very lucky too.” She said smiling as he kissed her a second time. “Thank you and yes mum was, I’ve never seen her like that but I was marrying the most handsome and kind man I know.” She said smiling happily. If there was one thing she knew she was it was lucky, lucky to have Jason in her life and it meant a lot to her.
She remembered their wedding day like it was yesterday, despite the time that had passed it was still a little bit of a daze to know that the life she was living was hers and it was real. She could still see Jason stood there and the feeling that as soon as she saw him everything would be right with the world. “I remember how difficult my father was with you in the beginning. Thank you for sticking in there with him.” She said knowing how difficult that would have been to do.
Her father could and would be difficult when it came to family, not only had she gone off to America but marriage and Jason. Shani knew all too well the arguments that had gone on over the years.

Jason smiled and nodded when Shani said that to him. "You are most welcome Shani" he replied, remembering the argument that he had gotten into with Shani's father. Jason pushed that out of his mind while standing there with Shani. "I am thankful everyday that we married and that you are the mother of our children." he said to her in an honest tone. "I'm convinced that Connor has your honesty and the McGuire stubbornness." he added off the cuff, smiling a little as he said that to Shani.
Honesty and stubbornness: two qualities that Jason knew could work in Connor's favor if channeled properly. At the same time, Jason took Shani's hand and kissed it. "Your beauty never ceases to take me." he said to her softly while standing there.

She smiled and shook her head, “You are wonderful.” She stated hardly believing that she was with the most amazing man. It was like life was a dream and so much more than she could have ever dreamed for. She could hear in his voice that he was being honest as she smiled again, “I should thank you for allowing me to be. I really did marry the most amazing man.” She said as she thought about how Connor would turn out with the stubbornness and honesty. She could only hope for the best for their children but stubbornness and honesty could turn either way, good or bad.
“I take credit for the honesty but the stubbornness he gets from you. Too stubborn for your own good at times Mr McGuire, especially when it comes to taking time off.” She said in a slightly teasing tone, she knew he had his reasons but they were human at the end of the day. They all needed time and none more so than her husband even if it had to be forced time. Shani smiled and quickly blushed as he took her hand and kissed it.
She was sure she had turned a few shades redder as he spoke too. “Jason, your flattery can get you anywhere.” She stated practically beaming at him as she shook her head. “It’s you who amaze me, your handsome, your strength and stubbornness. You don’t know how wonderful you are and how lucky you make me feel. I love you.” She said as she leaned into him and kissed his cheek gently.

Jason smiled as Shani said all of that to him, followed by the kiss on the cheek. "I have a good idea." he said to her gently in reply before returning the kiss. Jason was thankful everyday that Shani was his wife. "By the way: how are your parents doing?" he asked, knowing it had been a while since they talked to them last. One thing Jason was thankful for was that things had tempered much between him and Shani's dad when he saw how close knit Jason's family was.
"So, what shall we do today?" Jason asked after a while. He didn't feel like staying at home, though he wouldn't have minded. They weren't to far from the city museums and Jason was something of a museum junkie.

Shani smiled and raised her brow as she spoke of a good idea. “Sure, what is it?” She asked glad that he was there. She had no idea what she would do without him and was grateful every day he came home. “They are fine, mum got a new set of plants for the garden and dad is working on his car again. Last I heard mum had bought him a new set of gardening tools to give her a hand.” She explained, to her home was now with Jason though she was still glad she was in touch with her parents. It could have gone either way once her father knew about Jason.
“Oh, the Chicago Museum has a new exhibit that opened a few days ago. Want to go see it?” She asked knowing how much he loved the museums. “I might even get you one of those excavate your own dinosaurs.” She teased though she would get him something from the museum it just might not be that.

Jason smiled in reply when Shani said that. "That is great to hear about your family and we could get that for Connor" he replied gently while holding her. "Anyway, I'm always up for a museum trip....I'll met you at the front door." he added before kissing Shani on the cheek before going to get ready for their little trip. While getting ready, Jason thought about the day he told Shani's parents that he was going to propose to their daughter.
Jason was on edge for most of that meeting, until Shani's father gave him his blessing after Jason practically bent over backwards to prove that he could provide for Shani and keep her safe.

Shani smiled and nodded, so it was the dinosaur for Connor and they would need to find something for Phoebe and she would have to find something for Jason. “Done deal then, see you at the front door. Just done take forever working on your hair in the mirror.” She teased after he kissed her and went to get ready. She knew he hardly took long as she began to sort out her bag and took out her keys, purse and phone to take with her.
Jason was her angel, even when things seemed to be at their worst he would always make them better. If it was the right thing to say, to distracting her or even just making things better. If she had a hero in life it would be him. Shani knew her father was going to be over protective she just never realised how much until she met Jason. She could still remember standing there shaking a little as she waited to hear if her father would give Jason his blessing. She knew that he was good to her but proving that to her father, it was no easy task.

That wasn't lost on Jason as he thought about that day. At the same time, he was thankful when Shani's father gave his blessing, making it clear to Jason how much he expected him to care for and provide for Shani. Along the same lines, another day Jason wouldn't forget was when Mr. Gorin saw his grandson for the first time. Jason smiled a little at that memory, remembering when he heard Shani's dad speak in Hebrew to Connor.
Jason soon stood by the door and waited for Shani after getting the car keys from the hook. As he did, Ice went up to the main bedroom and saw Shani there, softly barking at her as he stood in the doorway to the room.
